bold colors & sweet accessories

One of my absolute favorite trends of summertime is BRIGHT COLORS!  I love how a beautiful ikat or bold stripe looks on sunkissed skin.  It feels liberating to wear a bold color, like an extra shot of confidence mixed with some ancient tribal grace.  Some like to go all-out, colorblocking and adding crazy bright accessories and a pinch of zebra stripe here next to a splash of cheetah there.  Personally, I love to showcase my bold piece by combining it with some sweet accessories.  I'm currently DYING over this beautiful free people dress.  Here's how I'd wear it:

Summertime staple: The sundress

In the summertime, between heat and traveling, I want my wardrobe to work for me!  I don't really want to fuss with styling a whole layered outfit when it is 90 degrees outside.  Just not my cup of tea.  I do believe that it takes effort to be fashionable, but nobody is actually going to keep on that blazer they threw over their dress once the photos are done!  (Though that is an adorable look.)  For the throes of summertime, my go-to is the sundress.  It's one piece, it's light and airy, and it looks ridiculously cute with fun accessories.  With dresses, you simply don't have the need to fuss.  Plus, when packing for trips, you don't need to worry about matching and coordinating.  Just get the accessories in the bag with it, and you're FREE!

I was absolutely head over heels for Lauren's adorable dress:

She looked adorable, and that print totally showed her personality without sporting a million layers. And, how cute is that belt?! Mixing up accessories can really change the whole look. If she wanted the dress to "speak" something different, she could use a brown leather braided belt with a fun flower clipped on.

As for me, I wore my trusty blue dress from the Zara in Paris.

And Sophie the Dane? She went absolutely nude.

Summertime Brights

Today is SO beautiful!  I was busy as a bee, but I had a great day.

First, I stopped by World Market and picked up this lovely new shower curtain for our master bathroom.  Here it is all ready to go!  I like the fun print, but I appreciate the calm colors.  It's beautiful when the light comes through it!

I spent a few hours at Bella Caley, doing the boutique thing!  Lots of people out and about on a Sunday. All the while I was wearing this getup.  I got the dress from Zara in Paris on a trip there in 2009.  I love it to death.  The shoes are from Aeropostale!  My friend Miranda works there, and I bought them on a random visit one day.

These earrings came from World Market, too!

We're going to finish off the night with a cookout with the future in-laws. I love that it's summertime finally! I really feel the most like myself with the sun beating down and the green being almost unreal.
