Wedding Recap: Our Minimoon in Saugatuck

Hello!  It's good to be back.  I had hoped to blog my way through wedding planning, but you know what?  Your mind gets crazy overloaded when you're the bride.  My blog posts would end up looking like a big melted popsicle.  The kind with about 10 colors/flavors.

I'm still waiting on professional photographs to come back, but to start, I'd love to share our minimoon!  We decided to push back our big honeymoon until the winter.  Lesson learned: weddings are expensive.  And when you get a nice month of weather in the midwest, you TAKE ADVANTAGE.

We laid low the Sunday after our wedding.  We had a quick brunch with travelers and then headed home to tie up loose ends, clean up our wedding mess, open our gifts, and pack.  I'd recommend a "free day" to ALL brides!  We needed it to re-group.

Monday morning, we set out on a little road trip and arrived at our destination, Saugatuck Michigan, in the early afternoon.  We stayed at a SUPER charming little B&B, The Wickwood Inn.  It was walking distance from downtown and right on the water.

First thing, we enjoyed a great meal at The Mermaid Bar & Grill.

It's right on the water, and we had a great view of people going by in boats.

The Wickwood did a nice cocktail hour every night.  They served wine and seriously tasty appetizers for the guests.  Mike snapped this photo while we were enjoying our wine in the beautiful garden behind the house.

The Everyday People Cafe was recommended to us by several people, so we knew we had to give it a try.  Needless to say, it was delicious, and we ended up returning for a second dinner!

Mike ordered this big beauty:

The second day, we decided to get a little adventurous, and we rented a couple kayaks for the afternoon!  This was after our couples massage this morning, of course.  :)

That night, we found a little beach to sit on and watch the sunset:

It was definitely one of the highlights for me!

The next day, we went antiquing!

I've been collecting vintage Pyrex for years, now.  It all started when I was 16 and fell in love with two sunflower patterned mixing bowls.  I bought them and stowed them away for a time when I'd have my own kitchen.  Over a year ago, I dropped one of them, causing the messiest food explosion I've ever made.  I was crushed about the bowl.  I searched for a replacement at every antique store we've been to since (which is quite a few), and, out of sheer hope, happened to ask a man at this store if he might know of one.  He disappeared for a few minutes, and then came back holding the entire set in his hands.  I cried.  Literally.  And that made him cry.  And before we knew it, we were a total mess in the middle of this Michigan antique store.  I was happy to have found a lost treasure, and he was happy to have made it happen.  :)

We continued on to Holland, Michigan for some more exploring.  We found a charming farmer's market, a great furniture store, and lots of other great boutiques.

On our last day, we made two friends.  One of the ancient variety, the other furry.

After a late lunch, we headed home.

It was the perfect little reprieve!  After our three nights were up, I felt so refreshed and relaxed.  It was fun to celebrate the first few days of our marriage in such a sweet little town.  The best part is that it's very easy to go back for anniversaries!  In the end, I'm glad we postponed our big trip.  Now I have something else to plan and look forward to!
