Jeans for free... almost.

Every once in a while, life doles out a happy surprise.  Like Monday.  I've been very, very busy lately, and a whole day off was just what I needed.  It was great!  I took it slow, sipped some coffee... hung out with these guys:

But they had their day-off agenda filled with eating bugs and licking icky things, so I met up with my friend Jen and we had a grand day out!

On days off, I won't want to have to fuss with my clothes.  I want them to work for me, to be extra functional.  These Gap jeans are in my frequent rotation for the moment.  They're two sizes too big, making them perfect candidates for boyfriend jeans.

Wanna know a secret?  I get my trendy jeans from Salvation Army.  Boyfriend jeans are great now, but I'm not about to make an investment.  $3, baby.  They're actually a straight leg fit with a little stretch, but if you buy them two sizes too big and cuff the bottoms... voila!  Boyfriend jeans!  I found these in the already-destroyed style (done by Gap).  However, if you want some wear here and there and all you can find are normal jeans, it's nothing that a bit of sandpaper can't help you with!  Just rub it on the spots that you want to be distressed.

The Power Duo...

One of my favorite things in the world is jeans.  After that comes black clothes.  They're just so EASY!  If you take the same t-shirt in pink and in black, the black just automatically looks more polished.  Nothing against pink, I love it dearly, too.  Black and denim together is like a cosmic alignment of right-ness that makes for chic and polished outfits brought to life by accessories.

See how the black shirt and jeans kind of make a great canvas for whatever you throw at 'em?  Especially on mornings when you doubt that you'll ever be able to throw a decent outfit together again in your life, black and denim makes it work.  So, cheers to packing for a weekend trip with a sloo of it!

Also, something VERY exciting is starting next week.  Can't wait for you to see it.

Not Your Boyfriend's Jeans.

One trend that I am really loving right now is the boyfriend jeans trend!  Just look at how the master of style, Rachel Bilson, does it:

On top, she's rocking a clean, tailored look.  The jacket is crisp, but the t-shirt makes it a bit casual.  This leaves space for the boyfriend jeans to bring in just the right amount of grunge.  I think true style moments happen somewhere in between polished and grunge.  It's as if the look is carefree.  The outfit seems to say, "Yes, I look nice, but whatever, I don't really care."  It's that careless spirit that makes this look so great.  P.S. Those clogs only help the situation.  They're a classic leather, a wonderful go-to.

When my lovely friend Miranda blessed me with her boyfriends that weren't quite doing it for her, I decided to wear them... oh... immediately.

I really like the look of the flirty, feminine top mixed with the baggy boyfriend jeans.  It's kind of the same theory as the Rachel Bilson look.  Putting something polished and "nice" on top mixes really well with the boyfriend jeans on the bottom.  This may go without saying, but heels are just so right with the boyfriends.
