leather and lace
Leather has been having such a major moment in fashion (always, it seems, but especially lately). Leather leggings and pants were all the rage for fall, and for spring, the new take is the leather skirt. It's flirty and versatile, and even more wearable than leather pants in the sense that it's a bit more approachable -- more girly. I love this one from Zara; the asymmetrical shape and the zipper make it a basic piece that does a lot of heavy lifting. It would be great paired with my old standby, a grey tee, but I really love mixing in a super girly element with this frilly blouse. The sweet embroidery and lace work make it an interesting counterpart for the skirt. As for the accessories, I love a bright statement bag any day of the week, and these fringe sandals are quirky but sophisticated.

A Midsummer Night's Outfit
In the full height of summer, it is DARN TEMPTING to throw all fashion out the window, whip on any random extremely-light-practically-nothing outfit and git 'er done. Don't hold out on me!!! You can still look great while feeling very comfortable, in fact! Case in point, this getup:
This morning, I started cruising Zara's website, hoping to find some lovely things, and that I did! I love how all of these things come together to make a beautiful outfit while still embracing the spirit of summer. The top is a knit, like a t-shirt, but has so much more to it because of that beautiful lace detail! (P.S. That lace lets in more air than plain old cotton!) It's got enough going on that the denim shorts seem like a mere accent rather than chosen by laziness. Those shoes! Way better than rubber flip flops. They have CHARACTER! To keep your hair out of the way and neck free of sticky, sweaty hair, that awesome be-jeweled headband does just the trick. So much more interesting than a clump of hair fastened to the top of your head with a plain old tie. I love the scarf. It's featherweight, yet it is so present. The colors are beautiful. It makes the perfect finishing touch on the outfit. So, there ya go! Summer beauty without sacrificing staying cool!
