Summertime staple lives on!

One of my favorite purchases this summer happened at an Old Navy near my house.  I was looking for a great deal on some shorts that would likely be destroyed by the end of a vacation when I stumbled upon their collection of beautifully colorful tunics!  Nothing incredibly goundbreaking, but just a nice collection of classic tunics.  Maybe they were meant for beach wear, I don't know.  I zeroed in on a red-orange patterned number and it was mine.  (As you can imagine, it didn't exactly break the bank, either.)  I'd never been much of one to wear a tunic, but it's turned out to be a fave!

Fall is a kind of magical time between the thick, cozy sweaters and crackling fireplaces of winter and the warm and breezy sweet air of summer.  So.... BLEND THEM!  I just layered some skinny jeans under the tunic, and, voila!  Fall appropriate tunic wear.

A little shout out to my newfound love: yoga!  Been doing it at least 3 - 4 times a week and feel worlds different.

Even though tunics don't usually fit into my usual repertoire, I felt extra at home in my accessories.  I'm wearing my all-time favorite Anne Klein wedge/flats and my go-to wristwear and necklaces.  If you want to try something a bit out of the box, but need a little comfort blanket, try bringing in your tried-and-true accessories to make it feel a little more homey.

What do you think?  Does the tunic stay?

My Favorite Things: Clothing

I find that my true love of fashion comes from the feeling I get when I'm wearing something I absolutely adore.  Sometimes it seems that our clothes choose us, and make us into who we are.  How many things do you have laying around?  How many do you actually wear?  I find that I go back to several staple pieces that stay in constant rotation.  Here are some:

I got this skirt from Loft this spring, and I love its classic shape and ability to blend into my wardrobe despite its busy stripes.  It matches with beautiful bright tops, toned-down neutrals, and basic cotton.  For me, it's a classic, and one that I'm holding onto.

I picked this sweater up from Gap later last year.  This thing has gotten more mileage than most of anything in my wardrobe.  Its neutral, not-quite-white color is perfect year round.  It's light enough to stay cool, but heavy enough to keep warm.  Best of all?  The 3/4 sleeves.  Since I always push up my sleeves anyway, this is a perfect match for me.

The classic grey v-neck!  Gosh, what would I do without this?!?  Polished with a pencil skirt, cool and casual with jeans, classic with khaki shorts and sandals.  It's the perfect canvas for any accessory, and it makes the most amazing neutral piece in my wardrobe.  Best of all?  It was $7 from Target!  Granted, it'll probably need to be replaced by the end of the summer, but it's gotten me through a whole year of fashion.

Never have I felt more at home than I do when I'm wearing these jeans.  I've had them for over two years now, and feel like I've JUST gotten them worn in perfectly.  All of the lightening is natural, thank you very much!  The straight leg is SO versatile.  It's not skinny, it's not boot-cut... it's right in the middle.  I love to cuff these with sandals, to roll them with heels (just to expose the littlest bit of ankle), and tuck them into boots for cooler weather.  Again, these were no splurge.  They're from Old Navy!  Their jeans have always done the job for me.  Two years and countless wears later, I think they're going strong for quite some time yet.

Americana, if you wanna!

Summertime means fun bright colors, and when in doubt, colors that reflect our red, white, and blue are stunning and fun.  And, of course, blue jeans top it right off.  All you need is an apple pie at a baseball game

I riffed a bit on the red and did pink instead!  Though, if I had the same sandals in red, I may have gone with that.  I ended up loving the effortless FEEL of this outfit!  I felt cool (the shirt is super thin) and summery all day long.  I was able to move about freely and comfortably, and that's the American spirit!

Ok, friends! Before I go, I need to ask you something!  What is the first clothing item you'd pack if you were going on a city vacation?  What's your favorite summer item?  :)

Easy Breezy

I don't know how many times I would have to say that I dearly love this white top to accurately express my love for it.  It's the perfect go-between for me.  I wore it yesterday morning to meet with a client, and kept it on for the boutique, and THEN out for drinks.  It does it all.  I've worn it in almost every imaginable situation, and I'll continue to wear it more!  Seriously, gals: a breezy white top is a MUST.

What I love the most about it is that it just DOES so much.  You can really have fun with your accessories when you have such a great blank canvas.
